The Borletti-Buitoni Trust was set up ten years ago by the pianist Misuko Uschida and the Italian philanthropist Ilaria Borletti with the expressed aim of helping musicians grow artistically and develop their careers. In the pre-concert talk Mitsuko Uchida was at pains to point out that she and the Trust are not interested in prodigies and “stars” as such, but in artists with “musicality” in their bones and who, they feel, may have slipped under the radar of concert promoters and recording companies.

As it is, many of the seventy-nine musicians and ensembles whom the Trust has helped to nurture over the past few years have gone on to become musicians of international renown.
