It is not immediately obvious what this product actually contains. The CD title is mysterious, suggesting some feminist approach to medieval/ early music. In the booklet text Montserrat Figueras states that ‘Lux Feminae is a celebratory disc’ (p. 29) and yes, indeed, this CD celebrates the role of women in ancient Hesperia, from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. However, it is not simply a CD recording, not simply some music about ‘light’ and about ‘women’ between 900 and 1600. Rather, it is something almost like a Gesamtkunstwerk. At first sight one can tell that this release differs from most others: the package includes a thick booklet, in hardcover, roughly the size of a double disc case. In fact, with over 170 pages, this is a proper little book! The CD itself is nearly hidden; it will finally be found in the back cover.
