On a successful performance of Verdi’s soap opera

From the very first bar, I find myself glued to my seat when seeing a Verdi opera. It’s like a slap in the face, followed by an irresistible magnetism that drags me to the depths of humanity’s rawest feelings. Despite the fact that this happens to me every time I see one of Verdi’s operas, it always comes as a surprise. Perhaps it is because I tend not to believe in their subjugating power until I am there and I am cruelly reminded of it. At the end, I feel emotionally exhausted and profoundly happy: the former because I have been confronted with the wonders and miseries of humankind; the latter because these feelings have been wrapped in most seductive and sensual music. I believe somebody should dress up as Verdi and take a bow at the end of the show, so we can thank the maestro, once again, for having written such amazing pieces. On…
